I have to do something, but I can't do it alone!

Just In: Arrest throws Waller County voter registration dispute into further confusion! Do my eyes deceive me this morning? No, they do not because Waller county is at their antics of voter suppression again. This time, they have arrested Jacob Aronowitz, a field director for the democratic congressional candidate Mike Siegel, this event highlights that there will be a change for the better since we have received some good publicity as a school and the media is highlighting the officials of waller as villains since they refused to prove that they updated the voting status of students. This news article is why as a political science major, I have to do something about this voter suppression despite I failed to be an effective voter deputy registrar. It was a hassle for me to get people to register because the address requirement at this school was so confusing. to compound the problem, we have students register to vote and say that they did but they rarely turn out on early voting o...

The Harem Video.

Image
The assignment that is up for discussion in this post is one that I did for Middle East politics was a final group project. It involved a video about women's rights in Tunisia and Saudi Arabia made with a couple of women and went well. This was for my Middle East politics class. I was planning to do a video comparing women's rights in Tunisia and Saudi Arabia but another group was also planning to do a similar topic. So my professor suggested that I join them and we collaborate. We did just that and decided on making a video. the video discussed various trends in women's rights in the two countries while comparing and contrasting them. Making this video was a bit a work, it required a lot of research and weeding out biased sources such as "Prager University" and religionofpeace.com. the video took 12 hours during one day to compile with my harem team which gave a lot of feedback and suggestions about how to make it better, in the end, my group got an A on the fin...

Weighing the pros and cons of making a difference.

Although I am a Political Science major, I also plan on getting an alternate certification after I graduate so I can use my undergraduate degree to teach high school social studies. but I am on the fence about doing that because of many allegations people say about teaching. I hear discussions about how awful children are these days, school politics, parenting, entitlement, and some other unrealistic expectations that were not even in the job description. Despite those negatives, I also see that teachers love students and educating them. they also benefit from pensions and loan forgiveness benefits. and unlike other jobs, they can take summer vacations and although that leads to a pay cut. With all of that aside, why teach social studies? The subjects in social studies are important because of all of the issues we have going on in our world today. we can see that people have not learned much from the past since education and the job market are focused on S.T.E.M subjects despite we...

The things that I do to graduate on time.

Image
Sigh; The things that I have to do in order to graduate on time or at all. It involves taking eighteen credit hours as well as working eighteen hours a week and balancing both, but it was not always this way. Before I got into this predicament, I was a mechanical engineering major contemplating what I am supposed to do if the track I was on would end up with me never graduating. I could not see myself spending eight years to finish an undergraduate degree. That sounds like forever because it is and the Pell grant is only good for six years and if I run out of money before graduating, my education stops. When I went to my old adviser Dr. Biney, told me that if I cannot pass math 1115, then I would have to take it again for the third time since I failed it once and dropped it the second time while on academic probation or else I would have to change my major. I have exhausted every opportunity possible to be eligible to be able to get into calculus prior to my sophomore year but ...

Social Invisiblity

Image
One important thing that I have learned so far in my journey to my Political Science Bachelors of Arts degree was why social invisibility is bad for society. It is detrimental because it prevents services from being equally accessible to everyone in our society. This same issue came to mind when I was discussing it with one of my professors named Dr. Nojeim, after I took a required class called, Crime In America. I talked about it with him after I asked him about he thinks of it.and if it could be a good thing because I once thought that social invisibility can help people who need to avoid detection. He explained to me "unless you are trying to avoid a responsibility or hide from persecution, social invisibility is a hindrance to us all". I asked him why and is that a good thing for people who need help trying to avoid the police or customs. he responded by mentioning that being ignored leads to things like urban decay, stereotyping, denial of services and communities bein...
